another thing i can't post on facebook
We're all so disgusting. We sit here complaining about our first world problems while there are children dying of AIDS and starvation in Africa, Christians in dozens of countries being tortured and executed for their beliefs, and broken, hungry homeless people living on the streets here in Birmingham. We're being indoctrinated with a lazy complacency about a vague notion of "those who are less fortunate than us," never actually thinking it through and forcing ourselves to look at the horrifying truth. Even me, who's personally seen abused women and children living and dying in a disease-ridden dump in inner city Guatemala. You get sad for a while, then you forget, you keep going about your cushy middle class life; you forget the human faces and souls that are still out there, suffering more than you can ever imagine. Don't you people see? You don't have problems. Your life is so incredibly, grossly fortunate and you don't even freaking know. It's disgusting.
