my first attempt at poetry in a while

I've been advised to edit this a bit, but I can't find the motivation to do it right now. Maybe I will later. For now, here you go, dark uninhabited corner of the internet.

These verses are addressed to Charlotte Bronte, and somewhat to her character Lucy Snowe, and mostly to myself. They were inspired by a beautiful quote from Villette.

Charlotte

You believe while you tremble, you trust while you weep
And heaven knows you pray for grace,
But you never can keep your head above water for long
All this tragedy, humanity weighs on your chest

You've got the burden of the earth on your shoulders
And it's not as easy as it sounds to cast it on God;
Your moods run dark and you just can't help it
But please, in the blackness, don't ever forget -

This life is not all, not the beginning or end.

You're lonely and solitude leads your days
And your nights are haunted by faces of the past;
You're soul-weary, sick and tired of yourself,
In need of a friend and desperate want of kindness

But this life is not all, not the beginning or end
And hope and sunshine sweetens your lot even now.
Your Redeemer Friend's words will comfort you again;
Keep swimming, Charlotte, til you reach dry land.
